Connecting with Colleagues Over the last year, NJALL has heard a number of requests for additional ways for people working in adult basic education to connect with each other. People have said that in addition to our annual conference they wanted more opportunities to share best practices and to discuss the state of the field. To respond to this need, NJALL is starting two new initiatives - Regional Meetings and Working Groups. Information and an invitation to join in the planning of these initiatives are below. We hope to draw on the expertise and insight of the wider NJALL community to make these projects as productive as can be. We hope you will join us in this work. |
Regional Meetings
Last winter NJALL held several meetings at which people discussed what they were thinking about the state of adult basic education in New Jersey. One issue that came up was the desire to meet with other teachers to share ideas. To follow-up on this request, NJALL will facilitate several regional networking meetings around the state. These will be opportunities to meet with people in your area and share ideas, teaching strategies, and areas of common concern. If you would like to be involved in putting a meeting together, please contact the following people:
Atlantic or Cumberland Counties Middlesex County Barry Semple Senovia Robles Mercer County Monmouth County Peg Gould Barry Semple If you would like to organize a meeting in a different part of the state, please contact NJALL at

Once dates and locations have been set for these meetings, we will send out another general announcement. |
| Working Groups
In order to increase the sharing of best practices, NJALL is putting together working groups that will focus on particular topic areas. Members of each group will collect relevant resources and links to key material with the goal of sharing the information with others in the state (e.g., via a newsletter and NJALL's online sites). As part of the process, members of the groups will review and discuss selected material. The majority of this work will be done online, so people from all areas of the state can be involved.
If you are interested in joining a working group, please contact the following people:
ESOL: Chris Sienkielewski Literacy: Peg Gould Numeracy: Lynda Ginsburg
Transitions: Hal Beder
Technology: Erik Jacobson
If you have an idea for a different working group that you think people may want to join, please contact NJALL at
